Intelligent Internet of Things Enhances Medical Service Quality

01

Shandong Provincial Cancer Hospital and Shandong Provincial Institute of Cancer Prevention and Control was established in 1958. It is located in Jinan, the city of springs, and is affiliated to Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences. The Shandong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission is the business supervisory department. It is a provincial-level cancer prevention and control research center that integrates medical treatment, scientific research, education, and prevention and serves across provincial regions. It is a national clinical key specialty unit for oncology, a national drug clinical trial institution, Shandong University Affiliated Cancer Hospital, a first-class research institute in Shandong Province, a "Taishan Scholar" position, one of the top ten clinical medical centers in Shandong Province, and the first specialized hospital in the province to pass the three-star review. It is also a first-class specialized disease hospital.

The hospital covers an area of 405 mu and has a building area of 162,000 square meters. Its fixed assets amount to 750 million yuan. There are 1,890 on-duty staff and 1,950 beds. The annual outpatient volume is over 150,000 people, and the number of patients admitted is approximately 68,000. The hospital has made significant progress in its discipline construction, with four major disciplines: the tumor radiotherapy department, the tumor discipline construction, the tumor surgery department, and the gynecological oncology department. There are 19 professional departments and 40 wards, 20+ medical technology departments and basic research laboratories. It has formed a comprehensive treatment advantage through the mutual cooperation of various technologies such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, biological therapy, interventional, and minimally invasive. It has a number of key specialties. The radiation oncology discipline, led by Academician Yu Jinming, is a national clinical key specialty and is a key laboratory in Shandong Province, a provincial key discipline, a first "Taishan Scholar Climbing Plan Position", a first "Taishan Scholar Position", and "Shandong Cancer Radiotherapy Center". The radiation oncology team was awarded the title of "Top Ten Outstanding Innovation Teams in Shandong Province" by the provincial government and was given a collective first-class merit. The four major disciplines, 19 professional departments, 40 wards, 20+ medical technology departments and basic research laboratories have formed a comprehensive treatment advantage through the mutual cooperation of various technologies such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, biological therapy, interventional, and minimally invasive.

Onco Wireless Infusion Monitoring System

02

With the continuous development and expansion of the hospital, the demand for the construction of a smart hospital has gradually increased. More and more businesses need to improve efficiency, allocate more medical staff to serve patients, and enhance the level of medical services. In November 2018, Shandong Cancer Hospital collaborated with Angke Information to introduce two smart nursing systems - the wireless infusion monitoring system and the patient body temperature monitoring system. Based on the one-net-infinite® medical-specific wireless Internet of Things platform, they added intelligent construction for nursing in wards such as infusion and body temperature monitoring, significantly enhancing the intelligence level of clinical nursing in the hospital.

The Onco Information Wireless Infusion Monitoring System uses a wireless infusion controller to monitor the drip rate of clinical intravenous infusions in real time. It transmits the data in real time to the IoT data collection engine through the OneNet® medical-specific wireless IoT platform. Based on the data collected by the engine, the infusion monitoring system provides a real-time, visualized unified monitoring interface, enabling the medical staff at the nurse station to keep track of the infusion progress in real time. When the infusion is completed, it promptly notifies the nurses, reducing the workload of the nurses and improving the hospital's service quality. The system is simple and convenient to operate, can be set up with just one connection, does not require regular charging, and operates for more than one year with AA dry batteries, saving the hospital's construction costs economically.

The hospital has also introduced a patient body temperature monitoring system, which continuously and reliably collects patients' body temperatures using RFID sensing technology. The patient body temperature monitoring system helps the hospital utilize Internet of Things technology to provide patients with temperature monitoring data alerts, reducing the workload of nurses, minimizing cross-infection, and improving the quality of patient care. The sensors are simply attached to the patient's aorta, groin, or armpit. The patient's body temperature data is sent wirelessly to the background for storage, and the system automatically records and sends it to the electronic medical record, generating an electronic temperature sheet. When the patient's body temperature is abnormal, the system gives a real-time alarm, enabling the patient to receive timely treatment. Real-time body temperature monitoring allows doctors to better analyze the patient's condition through the continuous temperature change trend, and patients can receive uninterrupted rest. Nurses can better focus on improving the quality of patient care.

In the future, as the OneNet Unlimited® medical-specific wireless Internet of Things platform continuously deepens its integration with hospital needs, it will be able to help hospitals achieve intelligent medical care for people and intelligent management of objects, thereby making "smart healthcare" more deeply rooted in people's hearts, meeting the people's demand for their own health, promoting the development of the medical informatization industry, and solving problems such as weak support for medical platforms, overall low medical service levels, and potential safety hazards in medical operations.
