As a top-tier smart hospital in China, it has built a comprehensive HIS, LIS, and PACS system, enabling efficient data exchange and streamlined workflows across the institution. However, a “last mile” challenge remained at the frontline of data integration.
To overcome this bottleneck, the hospital introduced mobile nursing PDAs in inpatient wards, extending the reach of its information systems to the bedside. Nurses can now quickly verify patient identity and orders by scanning wristbands and medication barcodes, record vital signs, nursing notes, and specimen collection information on-site, and synchronize data instantly with the hospital system. Task reminders help centralize and track order execution, eliminating the need for nurses to repeatedly return to nurse stations to check paper records.
Today, nursing work at Guangdong General Hospital truly achieves “data generated at the bedside, information flowing throughout the hospital,” extending the mature smart hospital system to every ward round and nursing procedure, delivering safer and more efficient patient care.
